Most guests cook, or get cooked for, at Ein Cynefin. The kitchen and dining table is built for groups and there's something about cooking together that makes a stay feel less like a holiday and more like home.
But, when you want someone else to do the work, here's where you go.
Close to the house
Glasfryn, Sychdyn – 10 minutes. Reliable menu, good beer selection, works for groups. Book ahead for weekend lunches.
Bryn Williams at Theatr Clwyd – 10 minutes. New restaurant in the recently renovated theatre run by one of Wales’ most celebrated chefs.
Polly’s Social, Mold – 10 minutes. Local taproom and restaurant serving brunch, small plates and Sunday roasts.
Glynn Arms, Hawarden – 15 minutes. Pub at the centre of Hawarden village, serving a seasonal menu.
Bonnie’s Pizza, various locations – Neapolitan pizza out of a converted horse trailer. Often arrives at Northop Cricket Club.
Cracked Coffee, Mold – 10 minutes. Great independent coffee and pastries from Beat Bakery.
In Chester
Sticky Walnut. – 25 minutes. Gary Usher's flagship is for special occasions. Always busy. Book ahead.
Covino – 25 minutes
Italian: simple and well-executed. The pasta is excellent.
North Wales
Bryn Williams at Porth Eirias Colwyn Bay – 30 minutes. Contemporary Welsh cooking with beach views. Good for a crowd-pleasing lunch. Book ahead.
The White Horse, Hendrerwydd – 30 minutes. One of our favourites. A picturesque pub with carefully crafted menu.
Vale Street Kitchen, Denbigh – 30 minutes. Low-key Italian with constantly changing pasta menu.
Dishes by Andrew Sheridan, Pestatyn – 30 minutes. Fine dining with small plates and a focus on Welsh produce.
The Jackdaw Conwy – 40 minutes. Fine dining, especially good with meat Small menu, everything done well. Worth combining with a visit to Conwy Castle.
Dylan's Multiple locations: Llandudno, Criccieth, Menai Bridge (30-60 minutes) Casual dining, local produce, coastal views. Reliable for families. The Criccieth location has the best setting.
Eryri (Snowdownia)
Tir a Môr, Criccieth – 1 hour. Coastal views, locally sourced menu. Book ahead.
The Groes Inn (where is this?) – 40 minutes. Wales's oldest licensed pub (1573). Historic setting, good food, excellent beer garden.
Hangin Pizza, Betws-y-Coed – 1 hour. Good pizza with a wine list to match. After this, go to the penny sweet shop, Candy Hut, around the corner.

Tesco, Mold – 5 minutes.
Waitrose, Chester – 20 minutes.
Celyn Farmers' Market, Mold – 10 minutes. First and third Saturday every month. Welsh cheese, meat, vegetables, bread. Stock up for the week.
Blasus, Mold – 10 minutes. Local deli championing Welsh produce.
Hawarden Estate Farm Shop Hawarden – 10 minutes. Award-winning butchers, bakery, seasonal vegetables. Good quality, worth the extra cost if you're cooking something special. hawardenestate.co.uk
Mynydd Mostyn Dairy, Holywell – 20 minutes. Fresh milk and milkshakes (with inventive flavours) available from a vending machine.
Pentrefelin Dairy, Denbigh – 25 minutes. Regenerative, perma-culture based farm selling dairy, beef, duck eggs, fruit and veg.
Surdeig Bakery pop-up at the Vale Grocer Cholomendy – 30 minutes
Rhug Estate Farm Shop Corwen – 40 minutes. One of the largest organic farms in the UK. Worth the drive if you're serious about provenance.
What most guests tell us
Most groups cook at least half their meals at Ein Cynefin. The dining table for a large group, the range cooker, the walk-in pantry with extra fridges – it's set up for group cooking.
If you're planning something special, we're happy to suggest local chefs who can come to the house to cook a bespoke meal or leave prepared dinners. Just ask when you book.
